Forestry Public Opinion Survey
In 2004, ESPRI participated with The Idaho Forest Products Commission and the US Forest Service supporting a public opinion poll of Idahoans' views of forest issues.
On several occasions over the past dozen years the Idaho Forest Products Commission (IFPC) has sampled Idaho public opinion on forestry issues to gain an understanding of public perception of many issues. In 2004 discussions between IFPC, the Forest Service and ESPRI resulted in assistance from ESPRI to enhance this latest opinion poll with questions focused on the "four threats" as articulated by Forest Service Chief Dale Bosworth:
- fire and fuels;
- unmanaged recreation;
- loss of open space;
- and invasive species.
The survey includes questions that will help ESPRI focus on public policy questions associated with the implementation of projects to reduce the threat from wildfire. When the survey is completed we will post the results of the pertinent questions on our website and include some instant analysis. Results from the survey will also inform ESPRI and help point the direction on future public policy analysis needs.
